Job Description:
Job Purpose: The Client Advocate provides support for medical services by assisting with treatment plans; treatment plan reviews; patient assistance programs; IDP, outcomes; authorization overrides; follow-ups, State paperwork and referrals. Conducts face-to-face visits; handles medical service related telephone calls with individuals receiving medical outpatient mental health services. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Standards:
* Education: Minimum HS diploma
* Experience: Required one year Medical Office, preferred six months Mental Health/Substance Abuse background, Ability to work with other people and groups. Excellent communication skills.
* Specific Skills: Medical Terminology and understanding, written and verbal communication skills and administrative and clerical skills.
* Credentials/Licensure:
* Trainings: CPR, First Aid, Health and Safety, HIV, Must have a minimum of 20 hours of training annually.
Organization Wide Competencies (to be demonstrated within 1 month in the position):
* Knowledge of client rights and ability to apply client rights principles to everyday situations and under all circumstances
* Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other regulations governing confidentiality, privacy, and security as it relates to behavioral healthcare
* Knowledge of Incident Reporting and related procedures
* Knowledge of GCC/WestCare continuous quality improvement activities and related performance improvement philosophy
* Knowledge of WestCare ethical behavior standards including knowledge of corporate compliance plan, cultural diversity plan, emergency plans, environment of care plan, accessibility plan, and WestCare code of Ethics
* Ability to meet requirements of Department of Children and Families/Department Correction background check
* Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and its principles, including an understanding of how these principles may relate to supervising employees or interacting with other staff and/or clients
* Knowledge of cultural diversity, including an understanding of how varying cultural norms (including language) may effect conducting supervision with employees and interacting with other staff and/or clients
* Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and the principles of CCISC, including an understanding of how these principles relate to interactions with clients
* Knowledge of agency ethical behavior standards including knowledge of corporate compliance plan, cultural diversity plan, emergency plans, environment of care plan, accessibility plan, and agency Code of Ethics
* Knowledge of GCC /WestCare mission, vision, goals and values

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. The Client Advocate operates under the direct supervision of the Site Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following, as well as performance of other work related duties as assigned:
1. Coordinate with doctor and participates in medical treatment planning and reviews; consults with each patient concerning attainment of treatment plan goals and objectives.
2. Order medications as requested by medical staff/doctors
3. Maintains medication inventory
4. Records/maintains medication samples and IDP
5. Complete required state and intake paperwork
6. Back up front office/reception. Assist with scheduling appointments, super bills/payments, answering phones.
7. Complete and comply with Request for records
8. Responsible for maintaining the patient's chart in compliance with State, CARF, Medicaid, and other rules and standards.
9. Attend and participate in training activities, staff meetings, and supervisory sessions.
10. Participate in Quality Improvement activities and committee assignments as requested.
11. Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
12. Ability to organize, interpret and communicate data in a comprehensive and effective manner.
13. Knowledge and understanding of Medicaid, CARF and Department of Children and Families rules and regulations.
14. Ability to communicate information effectively in both oral and written formats.
15. Ensure that if a psychiatric evaluation is being billed on a SAL that there is a note on the psychiatric evaluation
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
